I just noticed today that the home button on the white iPhone you are able to tell more how recessed the home bottom is - where as the black iPhone the home button appears to be flush and the recess isn't noticeable. I noticed this on my white iPhone 4s and a store model that I looked at.

that iPhone is not normal....should be flush just like the black.

It's just because there is a layer of glass over the layer that is painted white. If you look just right it gives kind of a weird optical illusion.

Hardly anything to get your knickers in a twist over.

I think he's talking about seeing the glass layer and the reflections underneath it with the home button, since it causes a shadow. With the black model, the black hides all of that so it looks more flat than it does on the white. I felt the same way, but it is fully flush.

EDIT: Dang it calvy, too quick lol

I don't have a black version of any iPhone model to compare it to, but my white 4S most definitely has a concave home button. No optical illusions or any other tomfoolery. Hold it up so light reflects across it and the l reflection curves. If the button was flat it wouldn't curve the reflection.

Be sure to check out my new book, "Circle of Intrigue: the iPhone Home Button Story, Part I". 650 riveting pages of in depth analysis of the world's most famous button.
