All of a sudden our White Macbook running OS 10.5.8 Internet speeds are very slow. We normally had gotten around 15Mbps downloads, and also get that on our other computers. But out of the blue our older White Macbook has slowed down to around .45Mbps. Activity Monitor didn't show anything out of the ordinary.

Any suggestions?

Try to isolate the problem by hardwiring the laptop to your router/modem via ethernet.

If your speeds are back up to par when you're hardwired in, then it's likely a problem with your Airport card. I'd try deleting your wireless network preference (System Preference -> Network -> Airport -> Advanced -> Select your wireless network -> '-' button) then restart the machine and try to connect to your wireless network again.

If that doesn't work, take the machine into a nearby authorized service repair center or an Apple Store to see whether its a software or hardware problem.

I ended up making some changes in the DNS settings by adding some addresses and now the internet speeds are back to normal.
