White screen of death

As the title states, was doing some stuff on iMovie last night then all of a sudden the screen went white and I have a multicolored dot spinning in place of the cursor, anyone got any ideas as to what the problem is please, it's been like that for well over 18 hours now.

Please help.

Have you rebooted the computer?

You bumped after a half hour. I almost didn't even open this since there was a reply. Calm down. People don't live on here.
 
I had to bump after 30 mins as it was going down the list need to keep it at the top, it won't switch off either forgot to add.
