White Screen???

so i finnaly hooked it up to the tv and that seems to be working fine but When I turn it on the screen shows the apple and the spiral underneath it spinning like it should but it just goes to a white screen after that. i have seen some post saying to try and boot from the hard drive with the option key but that does nothing white screen then a black screen. i also tried to boot from the os cd with the option key first white screen then just a black screen. my comps a 2008 15 inch macbook pro and i havent used it since early 2009 its been in the box because of the broken lcd anybody kno whats going on?
