White Stripes Announce Breakup

Today The White Stripes announced that they are breaking up. Supposedly the breakup is not due to any creative differences, personal problems, or health issues; the duo apparently decided that it was just time to quit recording together for really no reason. They do plan to release the remander of their catalog which hasn't been released.

This sucks a lot. I really like them and had hoped to see them live one day. I guess Jack White's other bands will have to be my consolation.

I saw it today too.. it makes me sad. I'm glad they will still able to work together after the divorce, though.

Um, actually they have been pretty much separated as Jack has been doing many other gigs for several years now. I guess this just makes it official.

More likely, the Dead Weather.

Either way- good to see people know when it's time to hang it up. That concept was pretty used up already. Good for them for not dragging it out.
 
I'll be honest.. I couldn't stand them. I didn't find their songwriting all that creative, and the popular songs they had you heard over and over were ones you just got sick of hearing.

But ya know, thats my opinion... :p
 
Such a shame the band is splitting up, but that porn video of Meg doing doggy style done in a mashup with the 7 Nation Army video showing her drumming will always be in my heart, and all over the internet.

BTW I lost a few URLs when I was cleaning up my firefox bookmarks, does anyone have a link to that one?:D
 
I'm rather ambivalent on this, a rare creative willingness for a mainstream band when it came to the music video (courtesy of Gondry) but there were bands that did the guitar + drums formula so much better... Flat Duo Jets, Pink and Brown.
