I think what Al Gore said was he was instrumental in helping the Internet proliferate, and perhaps he was. I never saw him post here though.

Ok, the truth about the Al Gore statement. - Its a good article.
Al Gore lost, so put the politicts aside.
- Out of context it is a poor choice of words. In context (as found in this article) it makes sense.

Actually, the last two word of his statement were cutoff by the media. The full statement read "I took the initiative in creating the internet funding legislation." (I have a video cassette of the full interview. My grandfather is a BIG Gore supporter).
The problem with using the Internet for the "truth" is that it can be edited. I stand corrected. (Actually I am sitting.) I still think its a good article. It talks about he framing of his statements to mislead people. - But we digress.

cut it out already, everyone knows that Gore never said he "invented" the internet, but he was highly instrumental in it becoming what it is today.
I never thought that anybody really believed the joke or misquote of Al Gore. Then I visited some PC boards today.
