Just curious how many others have purchased a new iPhone EVERY year since the original in 2007?!

I truly thought this would be the year I’d say pass, don’t need it, but I am excited for the Air! My wrist gets a little sore from holding my 16P nowadays.

-Original iPhone 4Gb 2G slow internet
-3G, waiting in line at the mall
-3Gs, Home delivery
-iPhone 4 Retina display

I have NEVER cracked a screen on any iPhone either! Anyone else?

I've been a yearly upgrader since my 3GS and sadly, my first cracked screen (it was the back glass) was my 16PM a month ago. Just got an insurance replacement to trade it in next week . I don't use screen protectors either.

See my sig.

Pre-ordered my Silver 2TB 17 Pro Max this morning 🤓

I have had every iPhone on launch day since the original iPhone.
I used to do the same with the AW, iPads and Macs….but thankfully the latter aren’t needed in retirement😉

I have upgraded every year since the original iPhone, until this year…….i might still get it, but it’s the first year since preorder started that I did not preorder.

The full list of every iPhone I’ve ever owned is on my profile. But in short: I’ve had the iPhone 3G - which I got just shortly before the 3GS was announced - and held on to it for at least a few years. When the iPhone 4s came out, I got the iPhone 4. My first upgrade thereafter was the iPhone 6 at launch day, from which I upgraded every year until the iPhone 13 Pro. Then I decided to switch to 2-yearly upgrade cycles. Not only to save costs, but mostly to make it feel more of an upgrade (and honestly, those ‘saved costs’ still could go to any other nice gadget!)

There was a time where it felt ‘cool’ to always have the latest iPhone, but I started becoming slightly less materialistic over time.. the excitement from then isn’t just there anymore. Don’t get me wrong: I’m still pretty pumped over getting the iPhone 17 Pro Max. But it’s certainly not a big deal as it would’ve been back then.

I have upgraded every year. Every year the excitement is a little less when I receive the phone. But they still get me before it comes out.

2007 was my first but at this point I forget all the iPhones I’ve had, they’re listed here in my signature though 😂 I only started upgrading yearly when I went from the 14PM to 15PM

Agree with the sentiment that the excitement is slowly dwindling away with each year…and even in the last couple of years I’ve sat here saying that this may not be the year that I upgrade right away, but it always ends up being that I preorder as soon as they become available. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I guess I just rationalize it that if I’m going to be paying VZW a monthly charge for the phone itself, I might as well have the latest and greatest one. 😂 Maybe one of these days I’ll just fork over the full amount and keep that one for a couple of years…

I had all models except for the original one. 17 PM might be the last one for the next few years. I upgraded due to the increased RAM. Otherwise, I didn’t need any of the new features.

My wife had the 3GS, I didn't jump in until the 6. It was iOS 7 that convinced me to give it a try as I found the iOS versions before that pretty ugly

Upgrade every two years for me. My journey has been

3G —> 4 —> 5 —> 6 —> 7 plus —> Xs Max —> 12 pro max —> 15 pro max —> 17 pro

I didn't hop on the wagon until the 4. Since then I've owned most of them, only skipping a couple because of two year upgrades and lack of funds.

4>4s>5c>5s>6>6+>6s+>7+>X>XR>11>13PM>14PM>15PM>16PM>17P.

Every model since iPhone 3G here. I missed the OG - it was only available from November 2007 to July 2008 in the UK IIRC.

I think I missed one or two "s" iterations early along the way, but otherwise, every single model since the OG in 2007. I never had a 5c or an SE though, and I skipped the 8 and got the X instead, as they were released the same year. I remember the angst here in this forum that year as those of us who waited for the X had to wait until November.

My upgrade pattern has been every 2 or 3 years, skipping most of the 's' models.

3G > 4 > 5 > 6Plus > 7Plus > Xs > 13Pro > 16 Pro

Every year since 2007. It’s my one present to myself I try not to worry about when buying, because of upgrades making it almost free with the plan I’m on now.

i upgraded every year until the iphoneX came out. since then i've been skipping 2 or 3 years. i think i owned the X, then the 12pro, then the 14pro and i just upgraded to the 17pro. at some point, probably around the iphone6, it didn't really become "necessary" to upgrade every year.

i used to keep all my old phones but when i got the 14pro i traded the 12pro in. i had been giving old phones to my kids but ultimately decided to take advantage of the trade-in price at the time of new phone purchase. there was a phase there where apple made it really hard to get a new battery, which i would do before handing the phone down.

When the first iPhone was announced/released, I only recently started using any Apple products, and I didn’t follow Apple as closely and had no interest in it. Then I played with one in and AT&T Store. But my family was on T-Mobile at the time. We switched to AT&T in Jan. 2008, and my first iPhone was the 3G.

I’ve had every iPhone since. Preordered every iPhone that could be preordered (4-17 Pro, excluding 5s).

Lined up at Apple for 3G and 5s, but was unable to purchase the 3G in my hands due to AT&T system issues. (Got it a week or two later from an AT&T Store.)

Only one (iPhone 5) replaced due to defect. I believe 2 or 3 replaced due to accidental damage. And two were lost/stolen. 5s was replaced as it was shortly after launch. 11 Pro was not as it was only weeks before 12 Pros were released.

Once there were multiple models of iPhone, I’ve chosen the smallest phone with the best cameras, with the exception of the XS Max, which had identical cameras to the XS.

I’ve chosen white or silver over black every time, then usually the “new” color once they started doing that.

I got the largest capacity available until they went above 128 GB, then it varied based on what they offered. Have been on 256 GB for a while.

Starting with the 3GS, my dad got each of my phones once I got the next one (excluding 11 Pro, which was lost and not replaced). After he changes phones, the ones he used often go to another family member, with no consistent pattern.

Starting with the purchase of the 12 Pro Max, I’ve traded in the oldest phone that makes sense to trade in. If doing carrier financing, that’s the oldest phone that gets the trade-in deal.

That’s a lot more info than anyone needed, but it was fun to reminisce.

Hey, I enjoyed reading it! I switched to Apple in 2006 with the purchase of my beloved black MacBook. When the iPhone hype was ramping up I didn’t think I’d like it but I was willing to at least look into it. On release day I went to the Kenwood Apple Store in Cincinnati to see it in person, fell in love but was hesitant… I slept on it and I went back the next day to buy it 😂 I was in college and it was my first credit card purchase.

I’ve been super lucky and have never had any issue with any iPhone I’ve ever owned. All have worked flawlessly! I’ve only ever broken one screen, I was bent over gardening and my phone slipped out of my pocket and hit the corner of one of my front steps. Fixed the next day with AppleCare. I still keep insurance on my phones because I could never be able to afford to replace it or pay for a costly repair; I’m only able to upgrade every year now thanks to T-Mobile’s Yearly Upgrade, as I will never have $1200 to plunk down on a phone lol
