I have a Apple Studio display and was considering purchasing a second to go with my Macbook Pro but am now looking at the idea of a 13 M4 ipad pro and using it in side car mode.

Me. I love working outside when I can but I'm also a software developer and screen real estate is precious so it's nice to be able to have a second portable screen.

I use my 12.9 Pro mainly to watch media or front cam if expecting a delivery.

Couldn't stand the non OLED iPad Pros and the blooming with their backlight displays. Had 1 or 2 but returned them within the 14 day window despite wanting to use them for sidecar and a second monitor during all my travels. After returning them, I went on the search for a better "secondary display" for travel.

A couple years ago, I found a great 4k OLED 15.6 travel monitor (for the price of an iPad Air frankly...) and used that many many months on a daily basis while caring for my dying father in a different state from my home. Loved it( and still do), it went great with my 16" MBP M2 MAX while traveling. It looked as good or better than the MBP display (certainly better at night...) but the PPI was fantastic.

Bought an M4 11" iPad Pro in March and have no regrets other than getting the base model which I may return to Costco for a 1TB with Cellular version.

Having a 3 monitor setup when traveling/in the hotel is great. I don't really use the 4k OLED Travel monitor at home because I have 2-3 LG 5k Ultrafine monitors depending on my setup(same panel as the Studio Display, just not as good a camera/speakers), plus the MBP. I do like having the iPad on a nice stand in my home setup but don't often choose to side car vs using my keyboard and mouse to control it or swipe/touch when needed.

I'm glad I got the 11" vs the 13" because of the weight of 16" MBP when raveling, plus the 15.6" 4k OLED travel monitor despite being very thin and light. All my electronics and batter back, etc add up. The 11" has stopped me from pulling out my 16" MBP on planes to work(which I always did on any flight more than 2hrs).

I use my 12.9 ipad as a secondary screen and at night time the iPad mini as a toddler monitor which works as an early warning for when he gets up.

I've done it while traveling. At home.... an iPad is a heck of an expensive external display 😳
