Is there an advantage to opting out from a privacy perspective?

Will they be collecting the data anyway? In other words, is the opt out only preventing you from receiving ads based on the data?

Seeming as you can't block the ads, I'd much rather be shown a bunch of relevant adverts than ads for makeup and shoes.

I agree. Is this all that opting out is accomplishing? Or are you preventing a certain kind of data from being gathered?

There's probably an element of data collection going on. But it'll have to be anonymised by law and it'll be no worse that the data Google's collected from me over the years of web searches.

I search for porn occasionally.

There.

You now know as much as Google knows about me, and as much as Apple will soon know.

I doubt I'll get porn ads though.

Shame.
