I’ve had a quest 3 since the beginning of the year and have loved every second of it. Great updates and support, the games are amazing, tracking is solid, the new experiences always coming are fun. The social aspect is really neat in that i got my wife one and we can always do fun stuff together in different worlds and apps.

But since getting my VR legs, I’ve been down to try the next step up. Something with higher resolution and more computing. Was thinking about an Apple Vision Pro but i see a lot of people saying there’s not much to do in it. For me, i would want one mostly as a home theater experience. My living room tv is old and has issues. Would be cool to just come home from work and pop on a Vision Pro and get a better theater experience than i have now. I watch stuff in my quest all the time right now. YouTube VR, Netflix, Hulu, max. The whole nine. But is the experience THAT much better in the Vision Pro to warrant getting another device? Especially shelling out $4k?

Curious about people that have both and what their experiences are day to day. Do you still play quest a lot for games and then switch to Vision Pro for high quality movie experiences or is that a bit redundant?

I had a Quest 2 and recently traded it for a Quest 3S. The main purpose of that device for me is workouts with supernatural and playing around with the games. I got a Vision Pro at launch and hoped it would be able to do both of those things but that never came to pass.. it has however completely replaced my home theater. I spent so much money a few years back buying a big OLED tv and a new receiver and atmosphere surround speaker setup and now I don't even use it this thing is so good. Phones and social media had started to kill my attention span when watching tv and movies and the Vision Pro gives that back to me. When I put that on I'm fully absorbed in what I'm watching as if I'm in a theater. It's truly awesome for movies and TV. and the sound ya get out of AirPods blows my mind. I Never knew earbuds could provide surround sound so impressive. I woulda never bought all the home theater stuff if I knew how good this thing was gonna be.. and ya can lay in bed and get the full theater experience too

FYI, if you can also share synchronized experiences with your wife via Apple's SharePlay. Of course, then you'd need two AVPs. ;)

If the main thing you are after is to replace home theatre then there is nothing better than the Apple Vision Pro.

In fact the AVP is the only way I like to watch movies now.
How long can you wear it and what strap do you use?

I've watched back to back 3 hour movies with just the solo band many times. it never bothered me much as long as the strap was low on your head and the pressure was on your forehead and not your face... Recently I got an Annapro V2 strap though so comfort of any sort is no issue at all. If it had been made with such an attachment to begin with no one would have ever complained

Watching movies/tv shows/etc on Vision Pro is unlike anything else.
It's 'movie theater' meets 'comfort of home' meets 'out of this world tech/displays' -- 3D movies are stellar. The resolution compared to the Quest is just ~leagues~ better.

If you use other apple devices, iphone, ipad, mac, you will feel right at home, the whole 'spatial computing' concept from apple is solid, it's in sync with all of your other devices.

As for games, some great gems, but far and few compared to the Quest.

TLDR; best way to put it is the Quest is like a gaming console with an OK screen, and Vision Pro is like a computer & iphone with an INSANE screen

If you live near an Apple store, book a demo. You will not regret it and imho, you will buy one on the spot after trying it out especially for your use case!

I agree with everyone regarding the home theater experience. It’s like being in a real movie theater without all the annoying people noise around you. 😅

It’s really nice to go back and watch older movies that you either don’t remember or never had the opportunity to see on a big screen.

I have a Quest 3 and recently picked up a Vision Pro to try. While the Vision Pro has better displays, and is far more reliable, the cost delta is just way too big to justify keeping it. I have my eyes on FB marketplace, if I can find an AVP in the $1800 range, I'll strongly consider grabbing it.

One big thing that's noticeable is the FOV, it's lower on the AVP than the Quest 3. I also have the open facial interface on the Quest, which allows you to see your peripheral vision, which is definitely preferable to me than having my outside vision totally blocked. I also have the Pro controllers for the Quest, and they are a complete POS. I frequently have to reboot the controllers 3-4-5 times before they begin tracking, something I don't have to screw with on the AVP.

One of the biggest things is just that Meta's software is complete and utter garbage compared to AVP. The whole notion of having to map your room out, and if you leave the leashed in area it stops working is horrible. Some have suggested just making a massively huge area, but mine will not do this. If I try to go any bigger than my actual room, it fails and makes me start over. Quest really, really, really needs an option to just disable all that useless protection nonsense. I exclusively use that headset in AR, and I don't need virtual boundaries. AVP I can wear and walk upstairs and all over my house, with Quest if I move a step too far everything stops and it's really infuriating.

I tried a Quest 3 just for my own experience. I took it back in a month. It`s ok if you have a child 10 years old, but otherwise it is a toy in comparison.

I have both and use both for different purposes.

Games and Karaoke (Bigscreen VR app): Quest 3
Movies and TV Shows: AVP

Why don't you buy a new tv for around £500 than spend £4000 on a headset?

AVP: Media + Computing. Q3: Gaming.

Q3 has made giant leaps in media/general app usage, but is stiil so far behind the AVP. And even for simple things like watching movies, AVP is so much more polished, and audio and video are just way better.

Gaming is still far, far better on the Q3. Hand tracking speed on the AVP has improved but Meta is still just better with the latency, and once you add controllers it is no contest.

Funnily enough, I ended up selling my quest 3 and just playing my ps5 on my Vision Pro through the portal app. VR flat gaming baby!
