And what is Daring Fireball?

sidenote: Got my iPhone 4 on June 24th and I love it.

You should use mroog... aww....
Daring Fireball is the name of Mario's Smash Attack in ssbb.

Seriously? This couldn't have been that hard to answer without opening a new thread.

John Gruber on Wikipedia
Daring Fireball on Wikipedia

That should do it, but as for the "why does he show up here" part...basically he has good info. People talk to him. If he says that something is going to happen, it usually does.

Note that a lot of people disagree with his opinions. I'm not talking about things that are clearly his own thoughts. Those are certainly up for debate. I'm talking about things like upcoming iPhone specs. If he says something about that kind of thing it's usually because someone on the inside has told him something.

I thought it was this guy.

The point of this thread was to find out about him by hearing what people know him as, not reading verbatim from an article.

Like if I wanted to know about how society thinks about McDonald's I'd ask people, not read an article that contains information about why the middle bun was added.

I'm not sure what the big deal about Gruber is either, but his word is treated as pure gospel by many. Simplenote probably owes a substantial part of their popularity and success to Gruber's fanatical recommendation of it. Just about every review of Simplenote that you read mentions Gruber's recommendation.

He's on Steve's Christmas card list. As a result he gets some good info, but occasionally says silly things to maintain that status.
