well????

just watching american idol, they didnt know who john farnham was. and who do they think they are insulting him like that?

</rant>

Why should Americans know or care about an English-born Australian singer who is almost 60 years old? And one with little chart success over there?

You know, just saying... :D

Hey, the Hoff wears a leather jacket much better than John Farnham, is huuuuge in Germany... and has a talking car.

John Farnham: big in Australia, not elsewhere.

I have no idea who he is. I think BV said it better than I could, and more polite. :D

I still remember the Little River Band. Yup... grey hairs.

And neither could most Americans. Face it, Australia is a bit of backwater on the international music scene... but not as much of a backwater as New Zealand. ;)

There's no reason for most Americans to have heard of this guy except for this song.

thats the song that the dude sung, and they didnt know it. probably his most famous. ugh

Well, it was over twenty years ago. I'm guessing most of the entrants in American Idol would have been too young to remember it.

I like Ann Wilson of Heart's version better... much better mullets and poodle cuts. :D

mind you his "last tour" thing went for about 20 years. who cares there are so many people that have songs that are over 20 years.

never heard of ann wilson.

Why should they know it? They were probably drooling in their cots when that one-hit wonder came out. Besides, it was a hit in Germany and the UK, but not the US from what I remember, so they may never have heard it. He never sustained a career outside his home patch past that record.

Could you sing along to Billy Vera and the Beaters, for instance?

Surprised you don't know Ann Wilson. She was a contemporary of his singing the same sort of bombastic pop. You might possibly have heard this one, regardless:

they were as big as farny?

Unfortunately, I do know of him.
My ears are still bleeding from last time I accidently heard him.
One bonus is his manager got done for tax fraud and is away for a few years. So we might not have to suffer any more.

I also saw that guy absolutely murder the John Farham song- Simon Cowell was right it was a theme park performance. The thing is its a brilliant song but it needs to be sung by someone with a powerful voice. If you haven't got the voice to pull it off it will sound cheesey. I'm not a huge fan of Farnham but I do give him the respect he deserves.

The age of reason is in my opinion a better song of his

I remember it was a huge hit in the UK (my home land and the home of truly great music) too.

That Aussie guy should do an INXS song maybe Need You Tonight.

The only reason I have heard of him is that he performed a version of We Will Rock You with Queen for the Rugby World Cup in Australia in 2003. It was pretty good actually.

yes he's a bit of a old stager and has made a carreer out of saying goodbye. In fact so many Final tours that people wanted their money back as they thought the final tour was the real final tour not the next but last final tour. Hey he's just trying to make a buck. It must be said that some of his stuff is actually pretty good. But he does have a dodgy accountant and 80's Throwback haircut (anyone remember 50's Throwback Mark lammar form radio 1)

Who knows who John Farnham is? I've never heard of this guy. Looking through the Discography on wikipedia seems like he has done lots of best ofs.
