I see in Europe that subsidized iPhones go for various prices depending on contract length and/or how much u want to pay each month. The more u pay the cheaper the subsidized iPhone is.

But in the USA. There appears to be a price fix. Does apple demand no carrier can undercut each other? With the rare exception of maybe a $25 break off subsidized prices once in a while or before new iPhones are launched. It appears all USA cell phone carriers sell iPhone 16gb for $199 price on 2 year contract?

Is this legal? Seems like a price fix to me. Or are carriers afraid to blink? Say Verizon an AT&T can try to sell phone for $299 16gb on contract? Increase their profit margin?

Or does Apple force carriers to sell at the magic $199 price?

Just wondering.
