I looked at the Apple site and not enough details for me to understand. I have an iPhone XS Max fully paid off. How much will my monthly installment be for 24 months if I want the 12 Pro with the largest screen? My XS Max is 256 GB and I never got even close to using all that storage, I won't need that much in an iPhone 12.

If you trade in your XS Max, your monthly payments will be $22.87 / month for 24 months, meaning a total of $548.88 (assuming you are getting the 128 GB model, since you said 256 was too much). The retail price of the 12 pro max is $1,099. So they're offering you $550.12 for your XS Max spread across 24 bill credits. Basically half off.

Is that possible - a 2 gen old iPhone (XS Max) getting 50% off the newest ?

Are you sure it's not for an 11Pro Max ??

I'm just going by apple's website advertising the offer. They offer for the 11 Pro Max is the same. And actually it's the same all the way down to the XR.

That sounds pretty good to me. I paid more per month for the XS Max if I'm not mistaken. I know I can get more money for my XS Max if I sold it on eBay or Craigslist. However, I might not want the hassle of doing so.

Yeah it's not bad. Just remember that you're "locked in" for 24 months in the sense that the credits stop if you cancel before then.

Yea it was that way with the XS Max. I kept it for the 24 months including during the pandemic (I skipped iPhone 11). So I probably will have no problem keeping a new one.

Looks like the trade-in credit is higher if you choose the Verizon Device Payment Program vs the Apple Installments (for my iPhone 8, it's $250 for the Verizon program vs $140 for the Apple program). Is there some catch to using the Verizon payment plan other than the 24 month minimum? I keep my phones for 2-3 years and don't see anything else major in the small print, so it seems like a no-brainer to me to choose the Verizon payment plan and get almost double my trade-in value.

So what makes sense for an iPhone X 256GB if I want a 256 iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Why do I see $27.45 on my end and $22.87? Confusing

Opening a new line means more money for the carrier, hence the lower price (incentivized).

Using your old line doesn't get them that new business.

That doesn't seem right. I simulated trading in the XS Max for the smallest 12 Pro storage Max and the trade in credit was $375 and the monthly payment was $30.37. That seems more reasonable. The trade in Credit for an 11 Pro Max is $500.

Do NOT trade in your device to a carrier or apple. They’re literally taking 60% if you purchased an 11 pro max with 256gb. Check out this guy on swappa.com who got a 1000, double what the carriers are offering

Yea I know you can get more of your money back by selling your phone yourself. However, for us who have never sold a thing on any website, it's kind of intimidating and we worry that we don't know what the hell we are doing.

Also, we are not familiar with fees these websites charge and don't know a thing about shipping. For example, how much am I liable for if I make a mistake and don't package the phone properly and it gets damaged while being shipped? It's seems a bit scary to us; therefore, we just trade our phones in.

Also, which of all these sites is best to sell on? It might help if we had a resource that guides us through the steps for these sites people sell on. A list that identifies best practices when selling on the internet would also be helpful. Maybe MacRumors should have a guide to selling devices. Is there one already?

I am more curious about the ability to upgrade in a year like the Apple upgrade program offers.

Same for me. I saw that I got a bigger credit for my iPhone 11. And now I am tempted to go ahead and trade my 11 in.

The Verizon credit was obtained on the Verizon site or the Apple site?

Never mind. I see where you got the information from.

Trade in credit for my X is $440 through Verizon compared to only $250 from Apple. I wasn’t planning on an upgrade but I saw $440, and here we are.

I'm in this same boat.. however, if you go to Verizon's BYOD page, looks like they are giving $450 just for switching.. so is the $440 trade on top, or would we be paying $10 for the privilege of trading in?

I wasn’t able to finalize it. It said I have to back when preorders start. But I did everything through the app on my phone from Apple. And I saved everything. So that i can just go back and finalize it. That day.

I am anxiously waiting for more preorder information from Verizon, on Verizon's site to compare between Verizon's site and apple's site offering.

I'm curious if the trade in deal that Apple's site is offering for Verizon would be the exact same on Verizon's site? If so, then I'll go with Verizon's site so I can use my VerizonUp bucks.

Also, if you order through Apple site, who sends the phone? Apple or Verizon? After all, it will be Verizon's payment plan. But I guess whichever site the order is placed with that company sends the phone?

I believe Apple ships the phone if I order from Apple. Verizon from Verizon.
