like the title says, wouldn't that be cool? Use to have this feature on my nokia. The phone would read the contact name out in between ring's so you know who's calling without looking at your phone.

It might be a nice optional feature, but I for one would not want it. That is the reason most of my contacts have custom ringtones.

TEG

I suppose it would be nice as a feature, I used to change peoples names just to hear something funny when they rang.lol

1) I much prefer custom ringtones, which are awesome with DRM-free songs and Garage Band.

2) I'd rather the name show up like it does on a landline. Is the cell network really so crappy that it can only display a number and not a name unless it's stored in your phone?

don't forget, you got the nickname field - nobody would know the real name if you could customise the name speak in this way

"Chewie is calling...."
"Han-solo landline is calling...."

With VoiceOver tech it would be nice.

The cell network is capable, but it might not make as much sense as it seems. For mobile-to-mobile calls, a lot of the names that would appear would be incorrect because of family plans, i.e. the husband's name might appear when the wife or children are dialing out on their own personal phones.

Nah, that's what ringtones are for.

No. The feature would be especially nice for businesspeople with bluetooth headsets--- perhaps the phone is on vibrate or there are too many contacts that call on a regular basis to assign and recall custom ringtones for, but with a name announced in the headset you will know who is calling without having to fish out your phone.

I have nick names for alot of my friends.

I dont need people hearing "Lans!", "Sweet Lu", or "J Danger"

Who would like the iPhone to tell you fairy tales at every bedtime like Nokia phones?
