OK, fellow cheapskates-that-don't-have-to-always-be-on-the-bleeding-edge unite!

The IP4 is free and the IP4s is half price ... and they are plentiful, no waiting required.

Who is considering moving to a smartphone for the first time, or upgrading their old iphone to a "newer" model now that the IP5 is out? I am the former. Talk me into or out of it.

I know people who are, but I don't get it. You're paying $30+ extra a month for two years just for data, why cheap out on the phone? Why not get the latest and greatest?

Well,

(IP4) 2 phones x $0 = $0
(IP5) 2 phones x $200 = $400

That's a pretty big up front difference.

I'm buying a bunch used from CL to sell on eBay. Dude sold me a Verizon 4 16 gb for $80, i traded it to eBay for $180.

iPhone 5 16gb at $200'is better value than iPhone 4 8gb for free.

Once those 2 users become more specs obsess lol or find out what's their missing in iP5, they will ultimately regret that decision - it's going to be a long and slow 2 years. :D

Naaaaah, do whatever makes you happy.:)

I am sorry but an iPhone 4 is $450, while an iPhone 5 is $650.
You agree to a two year contract that is worth $1400-2000 (for both phones) a year.

If you have the money to pay $80-90 for one line or $120-150 monthly for two lines, then I am positive that you have enough money to pay an extra $200 for the latest product that will last you the TWO years. iPhone 4s are more than two years old and you want to use them for an another two years. Good luck with that.

I am upgrading to a 4s from an iPhone 4 and I'm thrilled about it. I am on a $29.99 Page Plus plan and don't want the $100+ monthly subscription of the new iPhone. I can wait...

Not to mention it'll be easier for you to resell your iPhone the newer it is you will get that 200 you spend back

Bingo.

I'm not getting one myself, but I am surprising my mom with an iPhone 4S this week :)
It will be her first iPhone, so I figure she'll be okay with a 4S for now and later I will upgrade her to the latest and greatest. My dad of course is waiting for his 5 to ship.

If you're getting a cheaper iPhone, at least go with a 4S, better everything and double the storage. Getting a 4 is kinda foolish.
