My 1000 watt Onkyo 7.1 surround system is finally here! :)

Now... Those RCA cables just won't cut it anymore. That hiss from my AirPort Express is unacceptable. So I must go optical now...

But what cable to get?
How much should I spend on a cable?
Exactly what kind of cable do I need?

Since optical is 100% digital, that means a no-name brand will perform just as good as an overpriced Monster Cable™... Right?

So now I ask, those who use an optical connection:
Where did you get it?
How much was it?
Was brand-name important?
What kind of cable will work for my APE?
It sounds Perfect right?

And for the rest of you, those who use AirTunes... Do you use optical?. Just curious...

Greetings,

In my studio I generally use the standard Studio Cables 3m Optical Cable @ Click Here. I find these to be noise free, giving a precise sound that is vast untainted by the cable.

If you want to spend a little more, try looking for Cambridge Audio optical cables, you can find them (in the UK) here.

Regards,

For connecting your reciever to you airport express you will need a 3.5mm mini toslink cable like this;

The small end plugs into the audio jack on the express and the other end plugs into your reciever.

Yes.

If you can hear it, it's perfect. If you can't, then you need a new cable. Unless the cable is damaged and flexing (causing intermittent signal), you will either get the complete perfect signal or you get nothing at all.
