Trying to decide if the 16-inch is good for my scenario. I use DaVinci Resolve, FCPx, and VMs on a 2016 “Esc” i7 modeI with 16gb of RAM… I’m constantly over taxing the machine on a daily basis, and running out of disk space even though the 512gb model… it gets the job done however.
The issue is that I like the idea of the 16-inch, it just has much more heft compared to what I’m used to. I also currently have a desktop with an RX 5700 for gaming, though wrestling with the idea of being able to game on the laptop (obviously not main target).
I’m essentially wrestling with the idea of waiting for a 13/14 inch refresh Ice Lake, combined with an eGPU enclosure for the RX 5700 since my desktop is long in the tooth (i7-3770)… or getting the base i9 with 1tb and 5300m and just keeping the desktop.
I’m betting on the combination of a decent eGPU enclosure, and an heavily upgraded theoretical “13/14” inch, would hit the same price as the 16-inch i9. There would also be less trade-in value for my 2016 if waiting…
Anyone also on the fence and waiting out to see what is released as the refresh for smaller models?
