The existing remote was a pain to use, impossible to see in the dark, impossible to know which was was up, but ok, we got used to it (kinda) I haven't tired the new remote yet, so cant comment, but since its highly likely the same Muppet team was involved, I know what to expect here too. What words can I use with respect to the revised interface?, only to say that the new ATV interface is absolutely hardcore rubbish! Why couldn't they have just left it alone? It worked, it was reasonably intuitive, but what they have just squeezed out is a pile of steaming UKW! Its so bad, I don't know where to begin, but the overwhelming impression is that they sat down, looked at it and said, hmmm we got to justify our pay cheques here, how can we alter this thing to make it look like we improved it? If Steve was around, he would have sacked the lot of them on the spot, including whoever signed off on it. I wont bore you all with the mess this altered interface has become, However, one example, when you are on a vid in YT, you used to be able to simply move down and find/click on its channel, so handy, but now? Good luck with that. Sorry, but for me, what we are stuck with now has got to have been designed by a bunch of wayward Muppets.

Yeah, some of you I guess will like it, but I bet the vast majority wont. Answers on a post card?

Meanwhile, bring back the old ATV interface pronto and let's just pretend this never happened.

You're blaming the wrong people, it's not the ATV's interface that has changed all that much, it's specific apps, like YT, HBO Max, ATT, ... The only thing really weird about the new ATV UI is the remote is a little confusing when scrubbing. It doesn't quite work the same or so I hear. I never used the old remote, I couldn't stand it, I used a universal remote.

The apps control their own UI.

Slight overreaction about the remote but each to their own on that one, never had an issue with it myself and always know which way is up, can’t comment on the new one as don’t have one but then I’m happy enough with the old one so see no reason to change.
New ATV interface??
The most recent UI as you put it we’ve had for the past two years which came with the release of tvOS 13.
As much as I agree about YouTube it is however Google’s issue.
The only recent change Apples made as far as I’m aware to their UI was with the ATV app by including a separate ATV+ tab at the top which IMO is more of a welcome improvement.

Well if its "the apps" thats at fault, where is the continuity of user experience from Apple perspective? The 3rd party app is playing on an Apple device. Apple has always, above anything else, been about the "the Apple experience" in my humble opinion there should have been interfacing between Apple and Google to ensure that Apples standards are maintained on Apple hardware. Again, I bet if Jobs was around, it would be, work with our people to get "your" apps to fit with our design and user experience philosophy, or keep your app, we will write it properly for you. The current ATV experience is dependant on which app you're in yes, however, if Apple has allowed Google's Muppets to alter their apps, and yet Apple muppets haven't paid any attention to the results for Apples ATV customers, then my complaint still stands.

Gonzo, man you must have night vision lol, because how many times have users picked up the previous ATV remote in the dark and couldn't see which way way up? I've seen people do it numerous times in different homes. You can easily do it because there is nothing to tell you by touch or no luminance to guid your fingers. A common complaint with a million remotes I grant you, but a tiny design tweak would have solved the problem, rather than over concentration on the holy grail of symmetry of lines. I put a drop of luminance paint on the top edge and it did the trick.

Well it’s either placed on the arm of the sofa or on the little table next to where I sit, I pick it up and and put it down again and the next time I want to use it it’s in exactly the same position as the last time I used it 10, 20, 30, 60 or 120 minutes later Lol
Just dunno what some of you guys are doing for it not be facing the same way you left it, surely it doesn’t magically turn around on it own Lol 🤷🏻‍♂️

No magic is necessary if there are other people in the same home, especially children (and cats). ;) I live alone now but had a family when I was younger, so I can empathize. There are even several threads in the airtags forum where people are using them to find their remotes.

I never had the problem of figuring out which way was up on the old remote because I instantly hated it, put it away and have used the nice aluminum remotes from my old Apple TV3's ever since.

In my house, when I'm relaxing as I like to do, I cant always tell if I am facing the right way up when I reach for the Apple TV remote.

That might have something to do with it.

And I agree, but I don't blame the ATV UI, I blame the app makers and Apple... I love the base ATV UI, it's the best of any streaming player and I suspect the app makers are trying to get away with programming them all the same, rather than taking advantage of a particular platform's strength.

I normally drop it on the couch beside me, or on my lap, or if I'm laying down on my stomach, and then it slides off, or gets tossed around in the blanket.

could also be I'm right handed, and sit on the left of the couch, so my side table and the arm of the couch are on the "wrong" side for me to just set it down.
