I was too young to appreciate Walter Cronkite before his retirement.

My favorite news person was Peter Jennings. I still miss him.

From what I know (obviously before my time) Ed Murrow stands out.

More in my era, I always liked Dan Rather - which made the circumstances of his departure more troubling.

Didn't know Cronkite, unfortunately.

It's all in the voice.

(Chet) Huntley and (David) Brinkley.

They were a team, thus I'm naming both. Their theme song was the amazing 2nd Movement, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, not the more famous 'Ode To Joy'.
