Who’s buying the M6 14” MacBook Pro?

No one reading these forums! Jk. In all seriousness I think it'll sit slightly below that potential redesign and live on, spreading the price points of the MacBook line. Still a bit of a strange rumor. I seem to remember the base MacBook Pro is a strong seller so probably a priority for Apple to keep regularly updated. Moving those users up to a redesign is probably the long term goal. Seems to signal that the M5 MacBook Ultras are going to be quite pricey for everything that will need to sit below them on the price ladder.

not me. I just leased a loaded M5 Max.. I keep my computers 3 years so it makes sense for me. If nothing earth-shattering comes out in the interim I will just keep it.

I honestly don't know why I'd buy the M6.
My MacBook Pro history is basically:
2015-ish Intel → 2020 Intel → 2021 M1 Pro 14" (10-core CPU, 16-core GPU, 16GB RAM).
And here I am, roughly five years later, still using the M1 Pro every single day.
So apparently my upgrade path is:
Intel → Intel → M1 Pro → M6
…and somehow the only thing that really changes is the number on the chip.
The 2021 M1 Pro already gave us the design, MagSafe, HDMI, SD card slot, excellent speakers, and that ridiculously good Liquid Retina XDR display with ProMotion. For programming, it's still ****ing brilliant.
It's 120 Hz. It's sharp as hell. Mini-LED with excellent contrast. I can stare at code on it for hours and have absolutely nothing to complain about.
So Apple comes along with:
"Here's the M6!"
Okay... but my M1 Pro is still fast enough for everything I actually do.
Then there's the rumored future redesign with OLED and a touchscreen.
A ****ing touchscreen MacBook? Why?
I already have an iPhone. I already have an iPad. If I want to touch a screen, I'll use one of those.
I'm sitting in front of a MacBook writing code. I have a keyboard, trackpad and mouse. I don't need to reach across the screen like I'm operating a ****ing ATM.
And OLED?
Sure, OLED is nice. But what exactly am I supposed to suddenly see better? My existing mini-LED display is already gorgeous, 120 Hz, ridiculously sharp and more than good enough for programming.
At this point Apple could announce:
M6: 37% faster.
Me: "Cool."
M6: Better AI.
Me: "Cool."
M6: OLED!
Me: "My screen is already ****ing beautiful."
M6: TOUCHSCREEN!
Me: "I HAVE AN IPAD."
I'm not saying the M6 is a bad machine. It's probably going to be ****ing fantastic.
I'm saying that after five years, Apple still hasn't given me a compelling reason to replace a perfectly good M1 Pro.
The M1 Pro was such a massive jump from my Intel Macs that it actually felt like a new generation.
That's the problem.
I don't need M1 → M2 → M3 → M4 → M5 → M6.
I need Apple to give me a "holy ****, this is different" moment again.
Otherwise, I'll happily keep using my M1 Pro until Apple releases the M37. 😂

I got a 16” macbook pro m1 max, given the recent price increases and the lack of interest in a touch screen display i do not intend to upgrade anytime soon.
These machines are very capable, and the m6 if it does come out will be a just as capable machine. You do not need to wait for the major design change when it comes along.
I myself prefer to hang on my macbook until 2028 or until i find a pro max on sale preferably a m7.
As i have no use for a touch screen and OLED Burn in and oled dead pixels are my main worry.
I own a older oled TV which i hardly use when i first turned it on out of box i already had three dead pixels on the top and bottom. On the TV it does not bother me, but on a macbook screen i would go ape.

The Tandem OLED was developed to eliminate burn in and increase brightness. Ask any iPad Pro M4/M5 owner if they have burn in, the answer will almost 100% be No.
Not me — 16" M3 Max still handles everything my motion work throws at it, and the M3-to-M5 Max jump in day-to-day use (AE previews, Resolve nodes) has been way smaller than Intel-to-Apple-Silicon was. If I were shopping the 14 though I'd probably wait a cycle: new-chassis first gens have historically had at least one thing Apple gets wrong (butterfly keyboard, Touch Bar, thin ports on the base 12"), and the last iteration of a mature design tends to age better than gen 1 of whatever comes next.

I am considering it. I have M1 Air with 1Tb, which is already not enough for me and getting a bit slower. And in last years I took laptop with me less and less, so portability is not such big factor, I can trade it for a nice display. The only other thing I am thinking of is to wait OLED mb Air, but that would take at least another couple of years, so I think, I would buy M6 when it will be released.

I think I will go for the M6 MBP.
I just had the M5 Air - while it's a good laptop, the screen is not on par with even the Studio Display (2022), which is also just a 60Hz LCD panel. I understand that they are different things but the colors on the Air are less vibrant so they don't pair well on the desk. I can't find it acceptable that a 2026 LCD is inferior to the 2022 one basically - let alone if I upgrade to the XDR at some point.
So, looking forward to the mini-led screen, better speakers and the latest chip. Unless I go crazy and start waiting for the OLED MacBook Pro.

Wondering if Apple considers the MBP M6 an early substitute for
the basic MBP M7. Buying now would permit increasing memory capacity
as well as larger SSD. And perhaps faster processing given the 2 nm
configuration. I'd love a more compact case with an OLED display, but I
think that will not be a M6 feature. Have NO interest in a touch screen.
Bottom line for me is WHAT ARE THE SPECS. Cannot wait for the official
MBP M6 announcement.

I might very well be. My Air gets old, I need a new one, and now I feel like it does need some more power, may be not to the Pro Max area, but a a bit more than Air.
As for redesign, as everything Apple does it will certainly start with way beyond my buying limits, and also buying a new model with lots of 'childhood sicknesses', e.g. unfixed issues which will develop in mass usage - feels like too risky. In a 2-3 years may be. Immediately after launch? Certainly not.
So, MBP on M6 feels like way to go for me, if I decide to upgrade this or next year.
I have a well provisioned 16” M1 Max MBPro (64 GB, 4TB) and a 14” M4 MBPro (24GB, 1TB) along with my “coffee table” machines, a 13” M5 MBA (16GB, 512 GB) and a 512GB Neo. At this point I cannot see any reason to buy an M6 version of any of these machines (not applicable to the Neo, I know).
The M6 versions will be identical in relative sizes, weights, battery life (maybe lasting a little longer but not enough to justify upgrading), screens, ports, cooling, keyboards and a little faster in some tasks, but that is it. Until we get a step change in laptop design I see no reason to trade.
Weight reduction (especially for the 16”), bulk reduction (reduced dimensions for a given screen size), batteries that last several days at full load, 100% CPU and GPU speed improvement (say), Face ID, better GPU design performance for those AI and games applications etc., that may tempt me. But until then I might as well stay with what I have.
I await the reveal of the new designs with some anticipation but feel I may be a little disappointed if the rumors are correct. We will wait and see.

I’ve always needed two laptops: one for production and one for OS/software testing. Those are currently being filled by an M5 MBA and M3 MBA respectively.
I plan to get the M6 14” MacBook Pro in October for production, push the M5 down to testing, and sell the M3.
I’ve been using MacBook Airs exclusively for a decade now, but I’m looking forward to the new M6 with the higher memory bandwidth and improved GPU, and I don’t want to wait until next spring (or whenever) to get it in an Air.
I plan to get the M6 14” MacBook Pro in October for production, push the M5 down to testing, and sell the M3.
