This MagSafe Battery itself is more expensive than a lot of new entry Android phone. The description of this external battery saying it provides all day battery for Air with +65%. So 165% is the true amount of battery need for true all day? I guess all day could mean these:

Without the thick bricky external battery: 24 hours sleep mode without touching the phone

With the external battery: you can turn on the phone sometimes but don’t play game

The MagSafe battery is incase you need it. Apple shouldn't have announced it right after announcing the Air. People are assuming you're gonna need it. I would not buy that battery. You can buy Anker battery for probably half that price.

The issue with the Apple official battery pack is that the battery in it is identical to the 3,149mAh in the Air itself; which is incredibly small when you consider how much power you lose when wirelessly charging.

If I end up actually needing one (which I don’t foresee happening as the battery in the phone is rated to last as long as the 16 Pro) I’ll be buying a 5000mAh pack from Anker or something, which should in theory FULLY recharge the phone. And for less than half the price.👏🏼

To make the MagSafe battery that slim, they needed to longer. This is why it does not fit the Pro and non-pro. It does fit the pro max, though.

Why is it so hard to understand that not everyone uses the phone the same way? Some use the phone a lot while others use it while hiking or being outdoors where the signal is weak thus causing the phone to use more battery.

The obvious shouldn't have needed a thread. Maybe stop and think outside yourself and objective possibilities are much more easily to come forth.

From the product page, seems like it won’t fit the Pro Max, either, likely due to the bigger hump.

Yeah, that was a misstep. It made me wonder if battery life would be as bad as iPhone SE or mini despite their 27-hour offline video playback claim (which could’ve been due to codec efficiencies).

Felt more assured when I saw the battery capacities.

Air: 3,149 mAh
17: 3,692 mAh

The 15 Pro has just 3,274 mAh and I find that okay so Air should be fine as well.

Faster cpu would burn more energy. The latest video test doesn’t turn on any sound which is a very tricky part.

Agree that it was a mistake to show the battery pack during the keynote as the impression is you NEED it to get a good battery life. They could've just mentioned it in passing and say "if you want to extend the AWESOME battery life of the Air even more, here is a new battery pack".

Guess we won't know until Friday onwards and customers start getting their phones and test it out in real world usage.

Apple said that the Air will have "all day battery life" and since it has the same capacity as my 16 Pro, I would welcome it.

I am not the Pro type user that heavily uses 24 hours a day.
I am the iPhone user that uses it 1-2 hours max per day.

Normally, I prefer my M1 desktop Studio Mac and work Macbook Air M2.

Thus an iPhone is just a convenience tool that is meant for very basic needs.

Reviews are just days away. I have my heart set on the Air so I am going to sit back and wait to see how things play out here. I love that the MagSafe pack exists. I have never gotten longevity with Anker products, and for longer days away from a wall outlet, having the MagSafe pack is a good thing. Having carried a 14PM for the last 3 years, it is of no consequence to have the pack with me on days I know I may need it. For the rest of the time, the Air will be a joy as I always carry my iPhone in my front pocket. I have resorted to case-less use for the 14PM as I couldn’t stand the bulk otherwise, and it made it more manageable for me. I anticipate the joy of living with the Air to be well worth the tradeoffs that physics enforce. Let’s see.

You’re probably overthinking this. According to Apple’s comparison, the Air gets 27 hours of video playback, which matches the 16 Pro, and matches or surpasses other flagship models from just a few years ago. The average user will likely have no problem at all getting through the day. The external battery is for power users who want an Air rather than a Pro.

Same, I've had the MSBP since my iPhone 12, used it on the 14 Pro and now my 16 PM as needed. I do wish they'd also produced a new one that fit the other models, in a week it'll be the last accessory I have that's still Lightning. But I really only use it traveling or if I have a lot of cellular data usage in a day.

Just wanna clarify that it has not the same capacity as the 16 Pro. Apple gives the same numbers for video playback but the Air battery has a smaller capacity. Think it's about a 400 difference or something around that.

It’s for when you air-travel westwards, because then the day lasts longer.

Or for when you need the battery to last not only all day but also all night.

The Air is thin enough to allow for an extra battery without becoming too thick.

Thats the point. Even with an all-day battery they know enough people will have battery anxiety to pick one up.

Actually have you looked at the area of the camera, it is very thick. Air is just bottom thin, not actually thin.
