New thing today, keep getting a terminal screen popping up titled "terminal-bash-80x24".

the body of the screen says:

Last login: Wed Oct 1 20:05:51 on ttys000
Macintosh:~ mark$

any idea why I'm getting this screen. First I've seen of it. When I close it, at some point that I haven't narrowed down, it pops back up.

Terminal is what is on all Unix-based OS's. It uses the Unix shell bash, and is a shell with lots of features. It's very powerful. Read up on it and give it a try :) You can load in other shells, too.

It's probably opening up because it's set to open on startup or something. Who knows. I use Terminal all the time, though. Great for writing your own scripts and troubleshooting networking issues especially. Everything that is done on the OS can be done through Terminal.
