Why Apple may not have offered DDR3 1333MHz memory

I've seen a few people questioning this for the 2.66GHz and 2.93GHz octos and I had just written it off as an inventory issue.

However now that information has appeared it seems that if you have 2 DIMMs installed on any channel overall speed is limited to 1066MHz and with 3 DIMMs it is 800MHz. So a Mac Pro with 8x1333MHz DIMMs would have them only running at 1066MHz.

It's still a marketing / lack of customer choice / invetory issue too, but I thought some people might like to know.
