I've noticed apps for iphones are cheap compared to other platforms. People may complain about useless apps but one benefit for iphone users is we get cheaper apps that cost more on other platforms.

People like cheap? Cheap equals more sales, just look at Peggle! :)

I would believe it is due to the large amount of people who have iPhones/iPod Touches. A lot of people are willing to pay $1 for an app, a good example is Pocket God, they have sold over 1 million copies of their app.

The really crappy apps have to be cheap to even have a chance that someone will buy them. As a result, the good apps also have to be cheap to stay popular enough to be visible among the sea of crap. Fortunately it is possible for a good, cheap app to make a profit anyway, or the store would be nothing but crap.
