Why are BTO MBP more expensive at Macmall

Is there any reason that when ordering and customizing a MBP at macmall.com that it is substanially more expensive than just ordering through apple. I mean yes you get a discount on the base model, but if you customize the hard drive and/or processor you pay more than apple charges.

For example is you add the option of a 3.06 GHZ it's $500 at macmall, but only $300 directly from Apple.

All the rest of the customizable options are more expensive off the macmall website also, including RAM, HARD DRIVE, ect.

Is there a reason for this.

I mean wouldn't it be more reasonable to just order through the Apple Educational Store online, get your discount off the top (which is the same discount as Macmall) and then just customize your options through the educational store.
