Why are iPhone and BB Bold having 3G issues?

Why are these two premium phones the Bold and iPhone having so much trouble on the 3G network? I had a MOTO Q9h which is 3G and it worked great.
What is the deal here? The MOTO Q9h worked like it was born to be 3G. Wife still has hers and it picks up like it was using Edge, no problems. Just asking, not trying to start a troll issue. I would like to know.

No I have a iPhone and used to use a MOTO Q9h. The other poster said something about the chip set, do both the iPhone and the Bold use the same chip set? I read today about some folks saying that they are having problems with 3G on their just released Bold that is why I am asking.
