My friend got the iPhone 4 and all he does is complain about dropped calls, proximity issues, fragility etc...

Yet he refuses to return it because it is "so cool"..

I read many of the same complaints in here, about how people have to place a napkin on the table before they set their iPhone down to avoid scratches. Also not holding the phone too close to their face to prevent smudging and dropped calls or muting the call...

I guess I just do not get it, a phone is a phone and it is supposed to work like a phone..

Enlighten me. I am sure I will get some rude replies, so take it easy..

You are painting with a pretty broad brush
I love my iPhone and don't do any of those things
Neither do most others, only a vocal minority of malcontents

Maybe because these issues are blown completely out of proportion

Nothing to see here, move along.

Just another futile attempt to start a flame war.......Got nothing better to do?

First off, your question should be "Why are the iPhone users that I know or have heard of so silly?"

I have an iphone 4 and I carry it in my pocket, don't care about smudges, have no trouble with dropped calls (except one small stretch of road between work and home that is pretty rural and there is no coverage), use the hell out of the phone, and overall have no complaints.

There are people that are anal about their products though. If they don't like them and won't return them, well, then I don't know what to say.

Pathetic argument. You can make more broad statements like saying "Android users are too nerdy" which is completely untrue.

OP are you really that stupid?

Here we go with the ******s complaining about my thread. It's funny though because you all take the time to comment while you are sitting in your cubicle with no service :D

Of the 100 million iPhones sold most work fine as phones.

Of the ones that don't, people consider the device more than a phone and weigh the value of other features when deciding whether to keep it and/or trust Apple to resolve issues.

It is not like other phones are perfect. It is all just a matter of personal preference and trade-offs.

again with your generalisation.. i'm sitting in my garden with full signal FYI, the iPhone 4 has had the best reception out of any phone i've had, i have no antenna issues, no proximity issues, retina display is lovely, liking HDR photos, looking forward to Game Center with Flight Control and Angry Birds, liking the HD video uploads to youtube, i could carry on :)

You DO like to generalize, don't you? Sorry about AT&T in your area (yeah, I looked at your previous posts). Your friend's experience does not constitute the typical user (an "n" of 1 is not an adequate sample size to make a valid conclusion). The vast MAJORITY of us are happy. So please sit in YOUR cubicle, live and let live, and stop wasting time musing on such topics.

OP, just checking at your previous posts, you are the one that's silly.

Please stop trolling!!!

I just picked up my iP4 yesterday. I have 2 bars in this conference room but full wifi. I have a work-issued VZW phone on my belt so I consider my iP4 to be an excellent PDA that can act as a phone when I need it. Oh, and I got to leave that awful Blackberry 8830 at home today. It will probably never get switched on again. I'll ebay it after my 30 day trial period runs out and give my iPod Touch to my son.

I have a friend at the office who says his wife hates her iPhone (service) but she loves the phone. I got tired of waiting for Verizon to break down and offer the iPhone. Having an option to shut off 3G data, use wifi (if I want) and live with the $15 a month plan when I've been paying $30 for unlimited with the world's crappiest browser to Verizon all these years really helps.

I haven't used the phone that much but so far I am very impressed. For instance, if I'm on the phone in the car and want to transfer the call from my bluetooth kit to my phone, it's right there on the screen. I think (service notwithstanding) the phone part of the iPhone is superior to the phone part of previous smartphones I've owned from Palm and RIM. The OP's argument that the iPhone is not a phone is just plain silly.

But I do think that there should be more carrier choices in the US. I suffered with a number of "turkey" phones since the iPhone was introduced in 2007 and finally overcame my reluctance to leave VZW for the iPhone 4. One factor was VZW locking down the gps on my former devices. Another factor was getting burned by re-upping for a 2 year hitch for a Palm phone that was so bad I sold it within 90 days and bought a used blackberry. Lastly, At&t has started a data price war and Verizon is still refusing to budge on their $30 "unlimited" ripoff. I don't need unlimited. I do need to hold on to more of my money. For this reason, despite a fresh round of VZW iPhone rumors, I made the jump now.

Most of you are missing the point. The OP isn't complaining about the phone. He just used a non-working phone as an anecdote. He is saying that iPhone users (as a group) are loopy.

Obviously, not every single user is, but as a group I certainly agree with the characterization. Tons of people use macs, but there is nowhere NEAR the level of mac hate that there is for iPhone.

The users are to blame

Also not holding the phone too close to their face to prevent smudging and dropped calls or muting the call...

Yea, I have done that a couple of times, especially when my face is sweaty from mowing the lawn. But when I do that I find I am not close enough to the proximity sensor so I end up turning off the phone. Did it once with my 3G and once with the iPhone 4.

Ever considered looking at your circle of friends? Something tells me this may be due to your choice of friends and not an electronic gadget.

After reading several of your posts, it's clear to me that you are either 12 years old or have the limited intelligence of an early teen. According to your above post, users are to blame for people hating iPhones because iPhone users are "loopy". Sitting there in front of your glowing computer screen with all the time in the world, you still can't come up with a logical argument. Coming into an iPhone forum to talk smack about a product you probably don't even own is just sad. I vote for you to get a life.
