I've only had 5 battery load cycles but my battery capacity is at 49% of the original? What the heck? After reading a few threads on these forums about this, I was seeing numbers like 500 load cycles in 12 months, etc. with 25% or so original battery capacity, so I don't know why my numbers look so off for me.

Then just replace it, Im sure they will do it for free in any genius bar / apple store etc.

I'll replace it if you are willing to buy me one of those $100 batteries.

If your battery truly has only 5 cycles, Apple should replace no questions asked. Call them up and let them know your battery is in the toilet and you will most likely get a free replacement sent your way.

Ah I didn't know that; I'll see what I can do.

Laptop batteries are designed to be used. If it's kept fully charged or fully discharged, the capacity will suffer.

You need to run on battery power and drain it at least once a month.

Somewhat true...but not completely. The first year of my MBPs life was spent almost exclusively on AC power (under 10 cycles). I gained about 100mAh of life over that time. Currently I am getting just over 6000mAh out of my battery (original stated by :apple: - 5500mAh).
