Since I need 1GB of vram for Adobe software lets compare options, I don't want to use anything 3rd party inside my MBP, I only want to deal with Apple:

Classic MBP 15"
8GB
256GB SSD
Hi Res Display
£2199.01

Low End MBPR 15"
8GB
256GB SSD
£1799

So it's a 0.3ghz increase in speed vs Retina Display, better design, less fan noise and have £400 in my pocket. Seems like a no-brainer.

To be fair, the SSD upgrade from Apple for the classic MBP is hugely overpriced.

On the other hand, the SSD prices from Apple for the MBA and rMBP are much more competitive.

That's true but I'm one of those people who just want to take it out of the box and use it. That said if you do a self upgrade it's still a good £250 cheaper to get the retina model.
