Why aren't playlists on iPhone backed up?

I just got my iPhone 4. Backed up my 3GS first, thinking everything would be transferred over. Everything was - except for the playlists! Why?

I haven't erased my 3GS yet. Is there any way I can get the playlists transferred over?
