iPhone XS Why aren’t the photos taken with my XS in 4:3?

I thought the XS photo dimensions were 4000x3000 so why are the photos I took with my XS showing 2048x1536? Am I not understanding something correctly? Thanks!

I'm not sure where you got 4000x3000, but 4000/3000 = 2048x1536. They're both 1.33:1, or a 4x3 ratio. So your pictures are the ratio you thought they were, just not the resolution.

That's what size mine are as well. Still, 4032/3024=1.33. That's still a 4:3 ratio.

When I download the pictures from iCloud on the internet it shows as 2048x1536 but when I send the picture to my email and then download it it’s 4032x3024. Why would that be?
