why buy from apple?

There is only one other retailer I have purchased from that is tops in their game too and that is Bose!
get it wherever is most convenient for you, if they have it in stock. apple will certainly be the most knowledgeable if you have questions or need help setting it up. other than that - you do not lose out by purchasing elsewhere. same one-year apple warranty. target gives a 5% discount if you open/use a target card.
You can get the same Apple customer service whether you bought your Apple product directly from them, or from another retailer.
However, if you buy from Best Buy, you can buy additional warranty protection, against accidental damage, such as dropping your iPad, and shattering it on the pavement or submerging it in your bathtub. Apple's warranty doesn't cover user negligence.
My iPad 1 is still covered by Best Buy's warranty.
You can walk in and get one for free. I bought camera connection kit and walked away with 4 of this bags!
If paying tax is your thing then by all means buy from apple!!!
Op there is no reason u couldn't buy from an authorized vendor and take it into apple for customer service!

However every once in a while, Amazon stocks and ships the product, which saves me a lot of sales tax on a big item.
Apple customer service and AppleCare don't even mind where it came from, you get the same good service.

Often if you buy from Apple and have a problem with whatever it is you've bought, I've found them to be more than willing on most occasions just to go round the back and give you a new one. Their customer service really can't be praised highly enough.
