Why buy the 3GS when Apple is giving me a new phone in a couple of days?

I think Apple shot themselves in the foot when they decided to release 3.0 for 3G users while releasing 3GS. They appeased many of those who have to have the latest and greatest with the new features in the 3.0 release.....till next year..
