Here you have this beautiful, extremely powerful piece of expensive hardware that is absolutely artificially crippled and severely limited in what it can do. Why not provide a developer/pro mode?
They can? So why don’t they? They can.
Thanks for putting this refereshing new topic into the written form of a thread.
You might have missed something else totally new - the little symbol that looks like a magnifying glass on the right side of the forums menu bar?
It’s the search function.
It provides the possibility to find¹ threads which e.g. might have the same or a similar subject. This allows to read through the already shared knowledge and opinions related to a topic and offers the opportunity to present one's own thoughts to a broader audience interested and already invested in a subject.
You are welcome. 🤓

A modified version of full macOS should have been available for iPad Pro users since it’s release. And a pro/developer mode should be available for iPhone users to compete with the power and flexibility of android. It’s infuriating I can’t do the same simple tasks that android allows me to do.They don't want to cannibalize their Macbook sales.
The competition is developing convertible laptops with detachable screens - that can serve as productive tablets by themselves - at a rapid pace though (even foldable ones recently).
Won't be long until they force Apple's hand in innovating beyond features such as Stage Manager (in 2022 Apple invented the resize ability to windows of apps and view them side-by-side.... ) so we no longer require this redundant tablet-laptop combination.
Holy Batman. What a stream of consciousness that makes zero sense.Nobody argues that iPadOS simply can’t do certain things - everything which requires sockets, format a storage medium, or anything where you have to ask “why would you do that on a on that screen”, et cetera, et cetera - but…
and this might be hard to recognize and accept for many here…
it’s you.
Or better: it’s your lack of knowledge.
And the tendency of humans to become placent.
Again: no doubt… absolutely no need to discuss this… there are scenarios where an iPad - whatever model, and yes, Apple (perhaps wanted to) dropped the ball here - simply doesn’t work. Tedious workflow, missing functionality on OS-level, simply no adequate app, insert-your-poison-here, yadayada…
but besides that… it’s you. All your limitations… regarding knowledge, abilities, will to learn…
In a way it’s much easier to to use a Mac… if you do not really know how to do something. There are for example - and without doubt - simply more Mac users who know and are willing to help, books, tutorials, youtube videos… that alone provides reasons to use a Mac.
But you can do it on the iPad … not necessarily on the base model… but… well, you got the point I’m making, I assume. 🤓
And this is in no way related how long you tried in the last "whatever intervall"…
first: time, systems and apps progress(ed),
second: you probably didn’t know better… for whatever reasons.
I mean, you want to run native ffmpeg and convert videos? Well, watch a spider having the time to finish her web while an Intel-based Macbook Pro does the same task... meanwhile your finishing the next things… on your iPad... did I mention »in silence«?!?!!
Analyse, model and prototype big data in Python? Script the heck out of the local or a remote system? Work in Libre Office, Figma, set books in LaTeX/Tex, Affinity Publisher… we don’t have to mention anything the "public agrees" on an iPad can do, or anything remote/server based like Github Spaces, etc. … thank you.
And yes, there isn’t always an ready made app for a specific task and, holy glucose!, how do I wish for example I could simply compile programs which use certain GUI kits/framework - still…
in 2022 not using an iPad…
it’s you. Plain&simple. You might be misinformed, you might missing the ablities, you might simply choose not to do it on an iPad, you might not be able to disagree or influence your peers, there are probably zillions of things you can bring up and if the current page counter of this thread serves as some indicator… well…
but for many scenarios mentioned here and elsewhere…
it’s not the iPad or iPadOS…
it’s just you not knowing. Please accept it.
nota bene: I am aware that Macs caught up and thankfully Apple granted/brought them on the same silicon train as iPads - so there is now an alternative in various areas… and the Mac offers additional functionality - like e.g. and again: Sockets, format storage medium, etc. etc.... still.
That’s something I completely forgot , sorry… you are indeed right, for some iPadOS makes zero sense. That’s why they probably ask for a variation of macOS on iPads, right?Holy Batman. What a stream of consciousness that makes zero sense.
