I did a search for iLife 06 of 08 on Amazon.ca and it said it was "unavailable?" Any idea why, and where is a good place to buy it?

Hmm... not sure about Canada's Amazon, but it shows up here on the U.S. site.
If you can't get it online, the Apple Store may still have it in stock, if there's one near where you live. Otherwise, maybe an Apple Authorized reseller will have it in stock. You can find a list of resellers on Apple's site.
