I have a 3GS that had been jailbroken and working perfectly for a long time with 3.1.3. I'm trying to wipe it and restore the stock firmware back onto it, but iTunes keeps giving me an error code 3194. I thought this had been a pretty straight-forward process when I did this in the past...is there something else I need to do now since this thing had been jailbroken? Thanks!

Apple stopped signing firmware 3.1.3 yesterday, so you can only restore to iOS 4.0 now.

Crap! Is that because I am using iTunes 9.2? If I use a PC with 9.1 would it still work?

Well, I guess I'm looking forward to the 4.0 JB for 3GS more than ever now!

Unless you saved your 3.1.3 hashes, then use Saurik's method

Is there a link to pretty specific instructions on how to get iTunes to sign with Saurik's server rather than Apples? I have the 3.1.3 FW and have my blobs on file... just not sure how to put 2 and 2 together...

There are various tutorials around, but I would use TinyUmbrella (http://thefirmwareumbrella.blogspot.com/), as it automatically does it for you - just start it up and connect your phone before you open itunes and it will find your SHSHs on Saurik's server and take care of it. Make sure you are using iTunes 9.1 or earlier though, as I don't think you can option click the restore to choose the ipsw on 9.2.

Apple quit signing 3.1.3 (that means authorizing the install of)
PC or Mac doesn't matter.

Without hashes saved, you are stuck.

I know this to be true ... As I had this problem before ... not having the blobs also.

BUT ... I tried again just now for the hell of it and I was able to restore to 3.1.2 from a locked 3.1.3 ... without the SHSH files.

Strange ... Did Apple enable the signing again to help out users who got stuck ??

I just tried signing 3.1.3 (Just Spirit JB) and had no luck. Is it because I'm JB that it doesn't work?

It is too late to get your 3.1.3 signatures. They have to be retrieved from Apple's signature servers, and Apple is only signing 4.0 now. There is no way to spoof them, obtain them, generate them, use someone else's. If you do not have your signatures already backed up, the only firmware you can restore your 3GS to is 4.0. Sorry.
