I'm trying to transfer all the photos/videos from my iPhone 14 Pro to my Windows PC, and it seems that Windows Explorer is not showing all of the photos.

On my iPhone, it says the following:
  • the Recents album has 2883 items
  • under Media Types, it says there are 171 Videos and 834 Live Photos
  • there is nothing in the Hidden album
  • there is nothing in the Recently Deleted album
  • under Library, it says there are 2712 photos and 171 videos
Also, all of the photos/videos were taken in January 2023.

Given this information, I would expect Windows Explorer to show the following under This PC > Apple iPhone > Internal Storage > DCIM > 202301__
  • 2712 JPG files
  • 1005 MOV files (since there are 171 videos and 834 live photos)
I do see 1005 MOV files, so that much is good. But I only see 2709 JPG files. So that means Windows Explorer isn't showing 3 of the photos for some reason. Why is that?

you have the HEV - the free one is available via ms-windows-store://pdp/?ProductId=9n4wgh0z6vhq - and the HEIC extensions installed on your Windows system? Otherwise photos or videos in that formats won’t be recognized or imported to Windows.

nota bene: you need both extensions installed even if you only want to transfer HEIC photos. Microsoft offers a shareware version of the above HEV extension, which of course works too. 🤓

Or you can use CopyTrans HEIC for Windows - which is free for personal use - to transfer photos in this format.
