Why cant I update to osx 10.6?

I downloiaded an iphone app called Splashtop which is meant to show my mac desktop on the phone, but it says I need to be runnin 10.6 or later. I am currently running 10.5.8 but when I check for updates, it says I am up to date. Any ideas on how I can update to 10.6?

10.5.8 is Leopard

10.6.X is Snow Leopard.

You will need to purchase an upgrade disk.

You have to buy the upgrade, when the number changes like from 10.5 to 10.6 it costs money. Minor upgrades like from 10.6.0-10.6.x are free.
