Why can't we edit Pages documents on mobile devices?

On Quickoffice and Docs To Go (for iPhone) both won't let you edit Pages documents, but will allow Word documents.

I assumed this was just for a bit, as Pages is a less popular program, but Quickoffice goes so far as to say it's impossible due to the OS.

What do you guys think? Will I be able to edit it on Docs To Go eventually? I may switch to Word.

They are focusing on getting PowerPoint and Excel support first.

Who uses the .pages format? Almost no one. No one else supports the format.
