Curious that we haven’t had lots of complaints from folks that they can’t wrap the cord around the charger pack again and again.

I’ve owned Mac laptops since the start. Never had a problem with the cord.

But what’s your feeling about this cord deal?

Ears to wrap the cable made more sense when the cable was permanently attached. Now that it’s not I’m sure that’s why Apple left the ears off. I coil the cable separately.

I worked at a place where at least 80% of the users didn't use the gull wings (as they were called). And oftentimes we'd see the gull wings broken off. So it made sense after Apple ditched MagSafe in 2016, they got rid of the gull wings (and that extension cable that not many used too).

I'm all for it. I've owned countless Apple laptops over the years (maybe 100 or more) and never had an issue with the cable. But I also didn't wrap the cable tight on the power brick. I'd leave a nice bit of loop in it so there wasn't big mention on it.

It's also how folks treat things. Never had a case on my iPhone (other than when I was in Honduras in the jungle) and have had every one since the original in 2007. Treat it like the expensive device it is and it should be fine.

Got the new MBP. Sub out the extension cable for charging on the couch. Go without such when traveling, though I just opted for a smaller charger. It's only 60W but generally I don't need to charge on the go.

funny one of the first things i noticed after coming from a 2005 powerbook, 2011 mbp, and 2014 mbp. it was one of those small features that when i was younger made me really like apple. it felt like they had thought of everything, down to keeping the cord nice and tidy - especially compared to all the windows laptop at the time.

I guess i am in the minority, but i always used the extension cord and the wings to wrap both the extension cord and the power cord.

oh well, what can you do but stop living in the past!

Pretty sure those wings lead to most people wrapping the cord incorrectly causing shorts in the cable.

I missed it at first, but I agree with @chabig that now that the actual USB-C cable part comes out, I don’t really need it, as I always disconnect the cable from the brick and coil the cable separately when taking it to go.

I never used them so not having them does not bother me... I just coil up my cable and then pack it into my computer bag when not in use....

The macbook air 2010 gets wrapped around the wings
while
The Dell XPS 13” gets a careful tuck in the box, table.
