I remember when macOS's Preview app let you rotate and enlarge/smallify images and objects using the rotate and pinch gestures on the trackpad. It worked SO well because you could adjust things (like the trackpad's scrolling) on a pixel-by-pixel basis. A rotation gesture would rotate pixel by pixel so you could position something exactly how you want.

But since several OS updates back, you can't do that anymore. Now pinch only zooms in and out of the whole image. And rotate is a hot mess—either it does nothing, or it jankily/jerkily sometimes rotates (and sometimes doesn't) the image by small non-pixel increments in a laggy fashion.

What happened to the Preview app???

Which specific version of macOS or which specific version of Preview app were able to perform the operations in question?

Pretty sure at least Mojave? It's been a while. I want to say it may have changed after they switched to v11 from 10.x but I'm not completely sure.
