Carrier Why can't you use speakerphone when calling voicemail?

Always wondered why you've never been able to do this on iPhone? Is there any obvious reason for it? For those of us without Visual Voicemail it would be handy from time to time!

Does tapping the speaker icon not do it?

So when you call into voicemail, is the dialer speaker icon disabled? I’ve never tried voicemail this way.

You know what... I'm an absolute moron; I just never tried tapping "hide" which OF COURSE brings up the standard in-call menu with the speaker button...
How do I make it through each day??
