Why did I get iLife '09 for free?

I just found out this is something people must purchase. When I bought my Mac it was already installed. I bought my Mac over the summer.

And by the way: yes, every Mac comes preinstalled with the newest version of iLife (though not iWork). And yes, if your Mac came with iLife '08 and you want iLife '09, you have to buy it.
