Because they had to downgrade their old model because it would outsell the new model. If they kept the IP4 at 16gb and sold it for 150$, a lot of people would buy it over a 4S.

On the other hand you will see tons of used 16GB and 32GB iPhone 4 models for sale on eBay soon that you will be able to buy even cheaper.
 
Apple's genius way of making the consumer spend more money than they actually should on the newest model over the old model.
 
im sure the iPhone 4 will sell like hot cakes at the $99 price tag and outsell the iPhone 4S!!

I had friends waiting for the "iPohne 5", but since its only a 4S, they are going with the iPhone 4

dont be ridiculous......the 16gb model is like £500 with no contract........the 8gb will prob be around £400 no contract....u can get 16gb models free on a 2 year contract so u reckon £300 for half the size?? WAY OFF MATE LOL

its £429 no contract, still too expensive, not even worth it with the features it lacks, the only reason i want one is compatibility with mac, iv got loadsa apps i wanna use and constantly be on the sync with, the 8gb i thought would be abour £299 not effin £429 what a rip off
