Why do I have -8 text messages??

Honestly though I have never seen anything like this. I have seen it display 1 or 2 when I have none, but never negative.

Because your probably running some weird 3rd party SMS app that you downloaded off Cydia.
Because the native SMS app doesn't do things like SMS forwarding, deleting single messages, or landscape typing? And while I suppose you could SSH into your phone and remove the default SMS app entirely, I would be hesitant to do so.
Ergo, you wind up with two SMS apps.
I would ssh in and disable it by editing the file from .app to like .app.original to disable and hide it.
How do you have 8 draft SMS messages? Is this a feature on this 3rd party SMS app?
Disregard..you can have 8 draft messages if you have 8 replies typed for 8 different people without sending. Is that what you mean?
I don't have any drafts and I installed one SMS app which i got rid of. No drafts.

The only way I found out to solve this was to Jailbreak and install iRealSMS from Cydia... I did not want to restore my iPhone 3G because I had important messages that could not be backed up...

I had this on an unjailbroken phone. It was on my voicemail icon. Said -2. Eventually it cleared. I think its something to do with the fact you have deleted something but for some reason it hasn't fully updated.
Thats all I could put it down to anyway.

I've never JB my phone and I got (-1) friend requests on Facebook hahaha it's just a little bug.
