Why do I need an itunes account to download covers?

Hi, I tried downloading the artwork for the CDs on my music library but itunes need for me to sign in first. The problem for me with signing in is that I dont live in any of the 20+ countries where apple has itunes stores. I tried opening an account at the US site, but even thou my card can be used in the US apple wont take it.

Is there a work around to get the album covers? (other than getting them manually form amazon.com)

3rd party apps have been doing this for a long time before now, try out FetchArt for example.
