I had an M1 Pro 11, with magic keyboard, it was great, awesome, amazing.

But it was incredibly limiting for work related functions. I knew this, so no harm, no foul.

Did a trade-in for an iPad Mini and got myself a Mac Air 13, ie, an iPad Pro with built in keyboard and Mac OS. Its great, awesome, amazing.

The Mini, with the new Moft origami case, is great, awesome, amazing.

So why do I want to ADD an iPad Pro AND Magic Keyboard*, to the stable again? LOL.

* gave prior MK to dad for his Air.

The grass is always greener!

I’m conflicted on that lol. I bought into an Ultra and …. really, really …. liked it, but never loved it.

Traded it in for something.

But then a year later got a U2, again in titanium, and love it this time. lol

I have a similar setup to yours (M4 MBP, iPad Mini 7) and think it's a great combination. For me an 11" iPad with a keyboard case would be redundant. I highlighted the case part as I'm considering a 13" iPad Air in the future for a very specific use case, so having dual iPads does make sense in certain situations, in my mind at least.

Edited for typos.

I never understood why some would get a MacBook and an iPad WITH a keyboard. Seems somehow redundant. 🤔
I can't speak for everyone, but I had both at the same time. I used the MacBook when I had serious work to do. I used the iPad when I had light work that required a lot of typing as well as playing games and for tasks I could use the Apple Pencil on. There are still too many apps I use that require a Mac

Similar thoughts. I trade in the iPad to get an Air and a Mini .... and now I want an iPad again? With the keyboard?

It seems I like the touchscreen/keyboard combo when going casual use (video, social media, etc).

what WOULD be perfect is a Magic Keyboard for the Mini
I've played around with a Mac keyboard and trackpad BT'd to the Mini. Its fun to use lol

It depends on your use case. For me back when we could use our iPads for work I used the heck out of mine. I liked having "stations" set up around my place to work at. If I had meeting/office stuff I'd go to my iPad, coding work was done from my laptop.

That being said I still heavily use my iPad. I use it a lot as a second monitor for my laptop when I want to work away from the desk.

Sometimes you buy something initially with one idea in mind, and it falls short so you scrap the idea.

But down the line when you think of the same thing again, coupled with the experience of the reality of having it that first time, your second decision to do ‘the same thing’ is more informed.

Think - what down sides or cons did you have last time and why is it different now? It might actually be fine now, but don’t kid yourself, only you knew what your blockers were last time and if they’re a big deal to you now.

At the end of the day, buy from Apple direct and you can return it within 14 days but I’d draft up a game plan of tasks and apps to try on it during the first few days so if it does fall flat, it’s fine and you can return it and write the idea off once and for all.
