Why do Imacs have better graphics then mac pro?

Im really really confused about apples thinking regarding graphic cards. Why do the imacs ALWAYS have better graphic cards then the mac pros? Imacs come with better graphics cards default then the mac pros default, and they have better upgrades for graphic cards! mac pro:4780 Imac 4850

Why? I cant even begin to guess!
 
They don't. iMacs come with 9400m, cheapest laptop chipset nvidia does at the moment, Mac Pros come with Nvidia 120 which is 9500 generation.

And the two higher Mac Pros have 4850 and 4870. :)

9500GT is by no means 3d gamers card of choice, but it's faster than 9400 and it's not like OSX start looking like Vista if you suddenly have fast DX10 card inside...
 
Are you talking about the '09 Mac Pro?

Funny story: I spoke with a Mac Creative over the phone asking about when the iMac with the 4850 would be in stock, and he was clueless, looked up the apple store website, and said all the iMacs come with the GT 120. All I could say was thanks :confused: :rolleyes:

There are a lot of posts here on MacRumors expressing varying degrees of disappointment about the 2009 Mac Pro video options.:(

Um.... I own a mac pro, which costed me 3 imac (price wise) and I would like to upgrade my graphic card. Just shot your smug comment full of holes. :p

What happened to the nvidia workstation graphic card? the one with 1.5 gigs of video ram.

There was no difference in performance between the Quadro series and the cards that Apple offered with the 2008 model, much less the newest cards.

I was told directly from Apple Business (routed from the Developer number) that the Quadro line performed worse than the Radeon 4870.

You are wrong. The GT 130 and Radeon 4850 in the iMac both perform better than the GT 120 that is standard on the Mac Pro. The 4850 is only marginally slower than the 4870, so they're tanj close on the highest end and they DO surpass the Mac Pro base model.

You seem to be confused, as the 4870 desktop card found in the Mac Pro is over 2X as fast as the 4850 mobility card available for the iMac.
