I prefer my Control and Command keys to be swapped out because it's easier for me to do shortcut functions like select all, copy, cut, paste, find, etc.

However, every time I go into my System Preferences, and then swap out these modifier keys, they switch back whenever I either put my computer to sleep or unplug the external keyboard.

Right now, I have a Thunderbolt display with a keyboard connected to it. I also have a Macbook Pro connected to the Thunderbolt display with the two acting as dual monitors (for now).

I assigned my "F13 key as Print Screen saved to image" and for some reason that shortcut key never reverts back. Only my control and command keys.

Does anyone know how I can keep the modifier keys permanently swapped out? Also, even when I wake up my computer and switch the keys out again, they don't work until I basically unplug my keyboard, restore to default, and then plug the keyboard back in.

This is not something I want to do every time I get on my computer...

Thanks.
